Route description

A simple round trip excursion exploring the Sacro Monte S.S. Trinità di Ghiffa, a Special Regional Reserve since 2003 entered the UNESCO List of World Heritage together with other Sacred Mounts of Piedmont.

The area of the Sacred Mount and Mount Cargiago above offer a network of trails and unmade roads for mountain biking of varying difficulty. For further information www.montecargiagobikepark.mtb-vco.com.
Starting from the Sacred Mount, take the unmade road that descends gently to Ceredo and then goes back up the road to Carciago. After the village at a hairpin bend turn left into a wide track that enters the valley of the Rio Ballona and climbs up to the road. Turn right and continue to Caronio. After passing a car park with a fountain just beyond the village, at a hairpin bend take an unmade road which descends gently downhill to the Chapel of Porale. At the intersection after the chapel turn left and then at the end of the descent, at a picnic area, you meet the tarmac road again where you turn right and soon come back to the sanctuary.
